| Stanley Rangers U13s 18 V Cottingham Tigers U13s 16BARLA Yorkshire Cup, Round 4
16.11.08 It was a hard close fought game between two evenly matched teams when Stanley Rangers U13s played host to a big, aggressive Cottingham Tigers side from Hull in the quarter finals of the BARLA Yorkshire Cup. Cottingham came to prove a point and with revenge in mind, after last years defeat in the rounds at the hands of the Rangers, it didn't take long before the pace of the game was quickly set. Stanley had the advantage of playing downhill in the first half and it didn't take long before Charlie Ledger went over to score the first try of the game with Tom Megretton converting. With some excellent defence Stanley soon gained possession once more for Ledger and Megretton to add to the score sheet again. Cottingham were having none of it and with some sloppy defence and lack of communication from the Rangers Cottingham scored a converted try to make it 12-6 at half time. The second half was very much the same with Cottingham this time having the advantage of the slope and using to it's full potential coming back and scoring two tries but only converting one of them. Stanley managed one more converted try from Man of Match Liam Green who was a constant threat running wide virtual untouched. With only two points in it, the atmosphere was electric, but, with the end of the game in sight silly errors were made by both teams as panic set in.   Despite this, the game could have gone either way with some excellent rugby league played by both teams but there had to be a winner with Rangers going through to the semis 18-16.
