Stanley Rangers 33 v Milford Marlins 16
Stanley kept their promotion ambitions on track with this good home win against Milford Marlins 33-16.
Rangers began strongly with a blistering open spell and then kept pegging Milford back whenever the Marlins threatened to close the gap .Stanley scored the first try on five minutes when Matty Firth crossed the line, James Gollings adding a second just two minutes later. Centre Kevin King was the next try scorer and this converted try to the home side well clear in the opening quarter.
The Marlins responded on the half hour with an unconverted try from back-row forward John Elliker. Stanley's Danny Grice added a penalty goal to their tally but when Milford's Ryan Oxtonby converted his own try it brought the gap down to six points. However, Joel Marsh added a home try, converted by Danny Grice and when Grice added a drop goal right on the half time whistle the scores at the interval was 23-10.
The second half started with Stanley scoring an early try from Marsh and it wasn't until the 71st minute that James Barker dived over for Milford that the scoring recommenced. In the closing minutes, Grice added to his 13 point total with two further penalty kicks making the final score Rangers 33 to Marlins 16.
Stanley are away to Myton Warriors next weekend, 19th March.
